As I learned in Drew’s class, Brightcove is a website that allows users to create and start using an internet broadband video distribution channel. Also, Brightcove will allow users to make some money if large channels start to make money out of the users’ videos.
As I searched the web I gathered some useful information about Brightcove. This service is free and the main concern here is to focus on the technology that will let content owners show video on their own site; sell or rent video downloads; or place advertising on their videos.
Brightcove and AOL are working together to provide an innovative way to sell video content online. Through the partnership, users are offered a free Brightcove Network account and distribution through AOL Video. After registering with Brightcove, you will be able to upload your video content, package it with text descriptions and graphics, and distribute it through AOL Video and other great sites like Brightcove.com. Your content will then be available for sale on AOL Video and Brightcove.com.
While I was watching videos on Brightcove, I was trying to understand the technicalities behind this website. http://www.brightcove.com/channel.jsp?channel=196565862. The video format accepted is ONLY flv (Flash Video) while the format for the images is JPG. All those videos are already downloaded in the site by the users. Some videos are provided by Fuzzy Dice productions website. The streaming video is clear and relatively with long period duration, around two to ten minutes. Also, in Brightcove it has much wider variety of videos than Fuzzy Dice productions website.
In Fuzzy Dice productions website, http://www.fuzzydicefilms.co.nr/, I just experienced something totally different. First, this website is an independent company that presents short films, TV shows, commercials, music videos, and just little random things too for free. Users can sent them an e-mail to register and showing videos on their web or on many others, such as, Brightcove. After getting on Fuzzy Dice productions website, you will have to click into the lens in order to get through to the videos. I noticed the website address didn’t change after clicking on the lens. After you click on films, and by clicking on Experimentals, Commercials, or Music Videos, you will see four streamed videos in the same page and you can play them all at the same time. They vary in length and picture quality. Those videos on this website are provided or empowered by youtube.com. The video length is about 2:53 or less. Fuzzy Dice advertises videos in many websites, such as MySpace, Brightcove, iFilms, and moonfruit etc., it streams videos to them.
For me, I would definitely choose Brightcove website to either watch videos or publish my videos. In Brightcove, the registration is free, and users will be able to sell their videos. This site has much wider variety of videos in many different categories. You may find the same video in both websites, but, it is much better viewing it on Brightcove (the thumbnails are better).
